Why woman educators
need to be empowered?

While both male and female teachers have a role to play in molding citizens of tomorrow, in several countries like India, women educators are more important because of their influence on girls’ education and therefore on the upliftment of communities as a whole.

The traditional family responsibilities that women hold in families and the fact that most of them are mothers themselves makes it easier to relate to students in school. This is undoubtedly an advantage that facilitates teaching. This is what makes professional training that much more important for women so that they are made capable to perform as successful teachers.
Studies have shown that students see their women teachers as advisors and role models and that girls feel more comfortable about expressing their problems to women teachers rather than their male counterparts.
Another interesting study conducted by UNESCO in remote rural areas found that the presence of women teachers helped give parents the confidence to send their girl children to school. Women as teachers also help to inculcate gender awareness and equality from a young age. Female empowerment in the education sector helps to foster an environment that can make girls feel comfortable to learn. All the more reasons that teachers need to be facilitated in their work.
